Building Leadership Within Your Company

Building Leadership Within Your Company

We Are All Leaders

One of the most common myths about leadership is that you must be born a leader. Although there are natural-born leaders, many professionals in leadership positions have grown into their roles over time. Leadership is a process, not a trait.

Following this observation, I firmly believe everyone has the potential to become a leader. Of course, as the CEO of Lumegent, I lead every day—I provide direction, vision, and guidance to my team. But I also know when to step back. I want my employees to grow with the company and actualize their professional goals. In fact, I believe all my employees possess the potential to become great leaders, so I regularly encourage and foster leadership within my team.

Moreover, Lumegent hosts a company-wide pep rally each week. The rally not only provides a space to catch up with coworkers; it also allows team members to capitalize on leadership opportunities within the company. At our rallies, we often talk about new projects and initiatives—these are prime opportunities for employees to take charge and demonstrate their leadership skills.

Besides our regularly scheduled book discussions and pep rallies, my office is always open for conversations about leadership and self-improvement. I’ve helped employees transition to supervisory and managerial roles by simply encouraging team members to start thinking about leadership in their everyday lives. I love to help individuals unlock their leadership potential.

People want to work for companies that help them succeed. Some executives believe that fostering leadership within their teams will cause employees to become dissatisfied with their current roles or that leadership is only for C-Suite members, but the opposite is true. Employees with a vested interest in leadership will want to do more for the company. Strengthening employees’ leadership abilities now develops your company’s leaders of tomorrow. And when your business has an opening for a supervisor or manager, you’ll already have team members who are capable leaders and are ready for the next step in their careers.
